Looking for campground hosts on the St. Joe |
January 26, 2018 |
If you are looking for a memorable summer
experience and opportunity to experience your
national forest, the St. Joe Ranger District is
looking for volunteers to serve as campground
hosts from Memorial Day weekend through Labor
Day weekend, Friday through Monday. The following campgrounds are in need of hosts this summer: Shadowy St. Joe Campground, Upper Landing Picnic and Day Use Area, Emerald Creek Campground, Big Creek Campground, and Turner Flat Campground. A host helps other campers by answering questions, providing information about the local area, and acts as the "eyes and ears" for identifying problems. Hosts also help clean and maintain the campground. They will receive training, a uniform, and a free campsite. Hosts will need to bring their own tent, trailer, camper, or motor home. Most campgrounds have water and toilet facilities, and very few have electrical or sewer hookups. For campgrounds don't have cell service, the Forest Service will provide an alternate means of communication. Individuals or couples can be hosts. In some cases, it may be a family affair. Often, retired couples find it the ideal way to spend their summer. Hosts need to be friendly, flexible and responsible. Host applicants may be subject to a criminal background check. If you are interested in hosting a campground, or would like more information about these opportunities, please contact Jake Biar, Recreation Technician, at (208) 245-6013, jbiar@fs.fed.us. Positions will remain open until filled. |
