Cavender coming home for recital

For students graduating from the University of
Idaho with a performance major, it is customary
to put on a Senior Recital in Moscow. Never
being one for custom, Chloe Cavender wanted to
add a new dimension to the event and put on a
recital in her hometown of Bonners Ferry.
Chloe graduates this May with her BF in Theater
and an emphasis in Musical Theater.
“There are so many people in town who have been
very supportive of the arts and of me
personally,” she says, “that I wanted to say
thank you in some way. This hometown recital
seemed to me to be the right way to express my
gratitude.”
Chloe began performing at the age of five
dancing with Barb Russell’s Dance Studio.
Dancing, however, “interfered with her
playtime.”
She sang in Swinging on A Star Children’s Choir
under Vickie (Blake) Thompson. She caught the
“musical theater bug” in high school,
performing, singing, directing and costuming in
many productions at Bonners Ferry High School
and with Bonners Ferry Summer Youth Theater with
David Carpenter.
The hometown support did not stop there,
however. Family, employers, teachers, civic
groups like the Rotary Club, The Pearl Theater,
and many wonderful people have been very
supportive and encouraging through the years.
“There were always at least a complete rows at
the Becker Auditorium made up of people from The
Bonners Ferry United Methodist Church every time
I was in a show,” she says.
The recital will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March
9, at the Pearl Theater and will feature musical
selections from In the Heights, The Sound of
Music, Showboat, and Disney’s Frozen.
Sandpoint native and pianist Erik Jansen and
professional actor and tenor Shane Brown will be
joining her on stage.
There is no charge for admission and
refreshments will be served. |
