VVES Student Council Minutes January 16, 2014 VP Avery Pluid took roll: All members were present. The Minutes of the December Meeting were reviewed. President: Lily Blackmore, Vice-president: Avery Pluid, Secretary: Paisley Schulte, Treasurer: Evan Barajas Representatives: Reese Lane, Ally Wages, Aleah Jones, Bo Bateman, Cory Clairmont, Jaden Villeli Faculty Representatives: RaNae Barker, Gary Pflueger School Spirit: The following dates were selected for school spirit activities: * January 30 “Sports Day” to coincide with Super Bowl; any sport can be supported; hats with sport team logo can be worn. * February 13 “80’s Disco Day” (held on the 80th day of school). Disco Lives (!?) * March 3-6 “Read Across America Week” Dr. Seuss Birthday; Green Eggs and Ham for lunch tba * March 27 “Twin Day” Find a friend or two and dress alike! * April 10 “American Day” Every day is good to be an American. Dress up and show your support! * May 29 “Mr. P. Day” Wear a mustache and a tie; be safe, civil and productive! * June 2-5 “Spirit Week” Monday-Safe, Tuesday-Civil, Wednesday-Productive, Thursday-Badger The HS is still working on our school sign for the front of the school. The Talent Show will be held on May 29th or June 4th. Community Service Projects selected were: * Canned Food Drive ran from January 6th-16th. The Student Council loaded 802 cans and food items. 1st Dinsmore 128 (winning the ice cream and movie social), 2nd Funkhouser 103, 3rd Beck 94 This was in support of “Fill the Bus” for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Great Job VVES! * The month of March we will support the Animal Shelter by collecting items and a financial donation. * May 1st the Student Council will deliver May Day cards and flowers to the Nursing Home * Making cards to support all local law enforcement (Border Patrol, Local Police, Sheriff, etc). Date to be determined! * The School Officers and Faculty Reps will meet with the owners of the Rex Theatre to determine if a donation would be a prudent use of the Student Council money. * Community Trash pickup will be done in May * Donate money for the bleachers; this will be discussed at next meeting Fund Raising: St. Patrick’s Grams may be sold in March. We will discuss this further. Popcorn and Ice Cream Sales: Parents are needed to support these projects New Business: Bo Bateman brought up the discussion of energy conservation. If lights were turned off when the room is empty, we would save money. This includes recess, specialty times and evening custodial. This reminder to turn of the light when leaving a room is cost effective. Discussion was held about building a “Friendship Bench” on the playground. This would be a location for students to go when they feel lonely or need support. We will discuss this more before making a decision. The next Meeting will be on Thursday, February 6, at 11:45 a.m. |
