The current version of the GED test will expire
at the end of 2013. The current version, known
as the 2002 Series GED test, will be replaced
with the new 2014 GED test on January 2, 2014.
Those who have taken the 2002 Series GED test,
but not passed all five parts, have until
December 18 to pass or they will need to start
over again in 2014 with the new GED test in
order to receive their high school credential.
“The GED test opens door to college, better
jobs, the respect adults deserve, and the
satisfaction of earning a high school
credential,” said Mary Edwards, GED test
coordinator of the North Idaho College Adult
Basic Education/GED Program. “So we want to be
sure that everyone is aware of this deadline.
GED test-takers must act now to finish and pass
before the current test expires.”
Free GED preparation programs are offered
through NIC in Bonners Ferry, Coeur d’Alene,
Kellogg, Sandpoint and St. Maries.
“Support is available right here in Bonners
Ferry,” said Rex Fairfield, director of the
North Idaho College Adult Education Program. “We
can help adult learners get prepared to take the
parts of the GED test they still need to pass.
We want you to succeed.”
More than 1400 residents have started, but not
completed their GED diploma in North Idaho since
the test was redesigned in 2002.
“To anyone who has already started the GED test,
your future is calling. By passing the GED test,
you can answer that call,” said Randy Trask,
president and CEO of GED Testing Service. “You
owe it to yourself. Don’t miss the chance to
turn one small step into your next big
opportunity in life.”
The GED test has opened doors to better jobs and
college programs for more than 18 million
graduates since 1942.
Last year nearly 800,000 adults sat for the GED
test, which is accepted by virtually all U.S.
colleges and employers. As the creator of the
official GED test, GED Testing Service has a
responsibility to ensure that the program
continues to be a reliable and valuable pathway
to a better life for the millions of adults
without a high school credential.
The North Idaho College Bonners Ferry Center
offers GED preparation free of charge. Fall
class hours are Mondays and Thursdays from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 7
p.m. GED tests will be offered October 22,
November 12, and December 10. Preregistration is
required.
