Huckleberry pancakes for breakfast Saturday

July 26, 2013
The EAA is hosting the third Huckleberry Pancake Breakfast of the season this Saturday, July 27, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Make sure you stop by the airport for all-you-can-eat huckleberry pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice!

The suggested donation is only $5 so bring an appetite!

All proceeds from the breakfasts go towards Youth Flight Scholarship for Boundary County youth between the ages of 16 and 18. If you know anyone interested in becoming a pilot stop by the airport this Saturday morning to meet the aviation community and learn more about the scholarship opportunities while enjoying a delicious breakfast!

This Saturday there will be a special appearance at the breakfast by a beautifully restored de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver.

The Beaver was built in Canada between 1948 and 1967. The incredibly powerful and versatile Beaver was designed for flight in rugged, remote areas with short take-off and landing capabilities, making it an excellent bush plane. Even though de Havilland stopped building the Beaver in 1967, there are hundreds of Beavers still in use today.

Trevor Schneider
Trevor Schneider has soloed! Trevor was the recipient of the second EAA Youth Flight Scholarship for 2013.

He attended ground school January, passed his private pilot knowledge exam in June, and took his first solo flight on July17 under the supervision of instructor Conrad Bicknell.

Trevor is a natural, and is well on his way to becoming an excellent pilot.

Congratulations also to Trevor’s sister Tana, who just passed her float plane check ride in Alaska, for which she received a full scholarship this spring. Tana was one of the first recipients of the EAA Youth Flight Scholarships back in 2009 and completed her private pilot flight training at Northern Air in 2010. She is currently attending air traffic controller school in Anchorage, Alaska.

Northern Air would like to thank Conrad Bicknell for all his help in July. It was a very busy month at the flight school, and Conrad did a little flight instruction to help us out while he was home on vacation.

It was a real treat for some of our new students to get instruction for an F-18 Hornet pilot! Conrad grew up in Bonners Ferry, and learned to fly here at Northern Air before joining the Navy.
