Deep Creek Loop to lose last small bridge

June 25, 2013 |
Beginning July 15, traffic on Deep Creek Loop
will once again be disrupted as work begins to
replace the last single-lane bridge on its
route. County taxpayers aren't paying directly
for the upgrade, and Boundary County Road and
Bridge crews are working to make the
inconvenience as painless as possible.
According to county road supervisor Jeff
Gutshall, the project, contacted to Apollo
Construction, is expected to last around three
months, with traffic to be diverted for the
duration.
"There will be no temporary bridge or crossing
available during this project due to the cost
and nature of the project," Gutshall said in a
press release. "The creek parallels the road
adjacent to the bridge and a retaining wall is
required as part of the project and there is
neither room to work nor right of way to support
a temporary crossing."
While county crews will have little involvement
in the project itself once the project is
designed, crews have been working to improve the
route to Highway 95 via Lookout View Road,
clearing trees and widening several narrow areas
through the canyon to support increased two-way
traffic.
That project, he said if a project to repair
sloughing west of Mirror Lake Golf Course takes
place later this year as scheduled, which could
close the road for up to three weeks while the
bridge replacement project is underway. |
