The Boy Scout Troop 114 team had a warm but
exciting time at the recent 31st annual Idaho
State Forestry Competition, one of the warmest
on record, coming away with a third place finish
overall in the junior division as well as first
place individual.
Team members William Colson, James Leach, Neil
Martin and Malachi Rivkin finished the team
scoring with 1,094 points, behind the
first-place Careywood Eager Beavers 4-H team,
1,181 points, and the Genesee FFA Team, 1,139.
Malachi Rivkin won the Larry Fryberg Memorial
Award, given for the top individual scorer in
the junior division.
Malachi’s score was an excellent 425.
This is the fourth year for this award, given by
Judy Fryberg in memory of her late husband, who
was an Area Supervisor for the Idaho Department
of Lands.
The Bonners Ferry High School FFA team competed
in the senior division but did not finish in the
top three.
