Sending help to tornado victims

A Bonners Ferry woman is working to send help to
the victims of the recent tornados that battered
Moore, Oklahoma, and she's asking everyone who
can to help. It's not the first time she's
helped make a difference during a disaster.
Kara Lara is collecting clothing, shoes, back
packs, toys and similar items to send to
Oklahoma to help the people affected by the
tornado. Any Items in excess or that may not be
needed in the disaster relief will be sent to a
women's shelter there, to help the women and
children who were affected by the storm.
"When living in Wenatchee during the time of the
massive Haiti earthquake. I took on the same
sort of project," she said. "It took on a life
of its own. I was able to collect and send over
2,000 pounds of clothing and such to Haiti, and
was able to get Fed Ex to ship it for me at no
cost."
It's her hope to achieve such success to help in
a disaster on U.S. soil.
"During this project I will be reaching out to
local pilots, truck drivers, and to Fed Ex once
again to help get these much needed items to the
people in need," she said.
"I am a stay at home mom who has needed help
from others at points in my life, and understand
that there is always a need, but the need grows
by 100 fold in times like these."
She hopes to have the items shipped to Moore in
mid-June.
"I am happy to meet people in town or pick up
donations if needed," she said. "I also have to
make twice a week trips to Sandpoint and am
happy to meet then. If people are wanting to
help from Montana, I am happy to meet in Troy."
