With the temperatures on the rise, so are the
numbers of yard sales. This is just a reminder
that signs advertising yard sales can not be
attached or posted on the city's electric/light
posts.
It is also illegal to post signage on fences or
other private property without obtaining
permission from the property owners.
A person can advertise when having a yard sale
by using sandwich boards, cardboard boxes
(weighted down) or by sticking a sign into the
ground, to name a few.
You will have to have the property owner’s
permission. Once the yard sale is over, you are
asked to please remove your signs.
Below is a copy of the current Bonners Ferry
City Ordinance that regulates yards sale signs.
3-3-4: POSTING ON FENCES, TELEGRAPH POLES:
It shall be unlawful for any person to post,
paint, tack or otherwise attach any notice or
other advertising matter to any fences, walls,
buildings or other property, without first
obtaining the consent of the owner of such
property or his authorized agent or tenant. It
shall be unlawful for any person to post, paint,
tack or otherwise attach any notice or
advertising matter to any of the telegraph,
telephone, electric or other poles in the public
thoroughfares. (1959 Code § 5-2-4)
