Tibetan nun to speak at NIC
|
March 11, 2013 |
The
Venerable Thubten Chodron, an American nun in
the Tibetan Buddhist tradition who has practiced
under the guidance and influence of the Dalai
Lama and other masters since 1977, visit North
Idaho March 15 to elucidate on the age old
question, "can there be peace in an imperfect
world?"
Knowing our imperfections; conflict, violence,
loss, shame, she offers practical advice on how
each can not only attain a sense of acceptance
and peace, but how to share it with the world
around us.
Venerable Chondron teaches Buddhist philosophy
world-wide, and she's author 10 books. Her
teaching emphasizes practical application of
Buddhist practices in daily life and she is
respected for making them easily understood and
practiced by Westerners, and she is founder and
Abbess of Sravasti Abbey, a Buddhist monastery
near Newport, Washington.
Using kindness, clarity, and humor, she
addresses the profound questions of the human
condition, teaching how each can find and
develop their own peace, in spite of our
inherent imperfections, and then share that
peace with others so it grows, much as ripples
growing and coming together on the surface of a
pond.
Venerable Thubten Chondra will speak in the
Molmstead Library Todd Hall on the North Idaho
College main campus in Coeur d'Alene from 6:30
to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18.
The event, sponsored by NIC, Coeur d'Alene
Dharma Friends and the Sravasti Abbey, is free
and open to the public; attendees are asked to
arrive at least a few minutes early so as to be
seated when the program begins.
