Bonners Ferry Native to retire from Army

Army Sergeant First Class Trina Best, a native of Bonners Ferry and the daughter of Tom and Cathy Florea, Bonners Ferry, will retire following a 21-year military career in a ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at Joint Base Myer-Henderson, Virginia.

Best enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 8, 1992, after graduating from Bonners Ferry High School. She underwent basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, followed by advanced individual training as a financial specialist at Fort Benjamin Harris, Indiana.

During the course of her career, she served at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Camp Casey, Korea, Fort Bliss, Texas, Yongson, Korea, Wiesbaden, Germany, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

She was deployed to serve at Camp Monteith, Kosovo, and at Ali Al Salem, Kuwait and Qatar.

She was awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal twice, the Army Commendation Medal three times, the Army Achievement Medal three times, the Army Good Conduct Medal seven times, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal with bronze star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and several professional development ribbons.

While serving in Germany, she won the German Schutzenschnur, Gold, which is the German Armed Forces badge of marksmanship.

Following her retirement, Best is on track to graduate from the University of Maryland with her bachelor's degree, with a major in business administration and a minor in marketing.
