Local Guard training in 'Maple Resolve'

The last vehicle in the convoy pulled out of the Bonners Ferry National Guard Armory Saturday morning with the streetlights still shining, bound for Base Wainwright and "Maple Resolve."

More than 70 Citizen Soldiers of the Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team departed the Bonners Ferry Armory early Saturday morning on a 600-mile trek to Canada to participate in a Canadian military exercise.

The exercise began Monday morning and ends October 30.

Idahoans’ primary missions in this international training event is to support the exercise with heavy lift capability and security in the training area, located at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, Alberta, Canada.

This annual exercise, designated “Maple Resolve,” is comprised of some 4,000 Canadian soldiers and is designed to train them in skills needed to conduct war fighting operations.

The Canadian military is a NATO partner, and deeply involved in ongoing operations in Afghanistan.
