Thousands
of volleyball teams across the nation will
participate this fall in the Side-Out
Foundation's annual "Dig Pink" National Breast
Cancer Awareness Rally, including the
Bonners Ferry Badgers, participating now for the
third year. The Badgers; C-team, JV and varsity, will host the Timberlake Tigers Tuesday, October 2, in the Bonners Ferry High School gym for this year's Dig Pink event, with the JV and C-teams kicking off the action at 5 p.m., with the varsity match up to follow. Admission is $5, and between and during games there will be silent auctions, all proceeds going to benefit the Side Out Foundation, founded in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches, from middle school through college, and have them work together toward the common goal of making significant and identifiable differences in the lives a breast cancer patients and their families. In addition, Dig Pink t-shirts will be available for sale to players and fans alike to show support and solidarity. Forms are available at the high school for those wishing to pre-order. The term "side out" refers to a situation in volleyball when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve and control of the play. That's the goal of the Side Out Foundation, to do the same for breast cancer patients by providing them with the support, education and best available treatments to let them regain control of their lives. More information on the Side-Out Foundation is available on-line at www.side-out.org; to find out more about the Badgers' involvemnt and how you can help, call coach Jannis Tucker at (208) 267-3149, extension 118, or email janis.tucker@mail.bcsd101.com. |
