With over 5700 votes cast, 57% favored sending
KREM 2 meteorologist Tom Sherry packing his
famous tailgate party from Spokane to Medical
Lake High School Friday evening, where the
Cardinals will be hosting the Bonners Ferry
Badgers.
The popular weatherman's prep football tailgate
parties, which begin each year in early
September and last through the end of the
regular high school football season in late
October, have almost become a tradition over the
years, and the competition to determine which
games he attends each week is almost as fierce
as the games themselves.
Despite a wind storm that blew through, local
Facebook pages were abuzz with efforts to "get
out the vote."
"Go to krem.com," long-time Badger Booster Linda
Alt wrote. "Tom's tailgate weather. Which game
should he go to? Vote for Bonners Ferry at
Medical Lake. Winner will be announced tonight
on the 11 o'clock news. Right now Bonners' game
is behind University and Gonzaga Prep by
six-percent of the votes. Can vote as many times
as you want ... Just saying."
"Everyone please take a minute to vote for
Bonners Ferry at Medical Lake. Voting ends
soon!" wrote school board member David Brinkman
while the storm was at its worst. Less than an
hour later, he wrote again, "Keep voting on KREM
2 Badgers!"
"54-46% in Badger's favor ... had to vote yet
again to bring you that update!" came a quick
response.
In between hosting the tailgate party, Tom will
broadcast his weather live from the game during
the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts, finishing up well in
time for kickoff at 7 p.m. In announcing this
week's winners on the 11 p.m. broadcast
Wednesday night, he promised almost perfect
football weather for Friday night's game; mostly
sunny skies with a daytime high of 83-degrees,
starting to cool off a bit just as the game
begins.
While the Badgers and the Cardinals are suiting
up and the coaches launching into their pep
talks, the fans will be getting their game faces
on with some of Tom Sherry's excellent barbecue
in a tailgate party hosted by a true pro. While
he's expecting a good turn out of Cardinal
fans, he's hoping to see some Badger blue there
as well, in spite of the long drive.
"Badger fans," he said, "we hope to see you
too!"
One Badger fan who will almost assuredly be
there is Boundary County Commissioner Ron Smith,
so if all you other Badger boosters plan on
getting anything to eat before the game, you'd
better leave early!
In addition to a great tailgate party for the
fans, both schools will also get $222 for
winning the competition to decide where Tom
travels, making the win even sweeter. |
