"Cats"
is a wondrous musical composed by Andrew Lloyd
Webber, based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book
of Practical Cats." Since its Broadway debut in 1982, it's garnered numerous milestones, including a Tony for Best Musical. It'll set another milestone Thursday evening, when Bonners Ferry Summer Youth Theatre opens "Cats, A Musical Revue" on a two-night run at the Becker Auditorium. The cast knows they are following on the heels of one of the best local theater productions in recent memory in Bonners Ferry, last week's outstanding "The Wizard of Oz." None are overly concerned; they've worked as hard and as long as that stellar cast ... in fact, many of the "Cats" cast members also performed in "The Wizard of Oz." As with last week's production, "Cats: A Musical Revue" has been developed under the hands of artistic director David Carpenter, director and choreographer Charena Branscum and music director Sara Owinyo, who, with their energy, drive and optimism, have brought out the utmost abilities of every cast member. The audiences were good for the three night run of "The Wizard of Oz," but their were ample empty seats for more to enjoy the awesome talent of the cast and crew, Boundary County students all, some veterans of the local stage, others making their theatrical debut. Each would like nothing more than to see a standing-room-only audience; they know all who come will enjoy the experience. Many who told their friends about the "Wizard of Oz" heard, "Wow, I wish I'd have gone!" If you miss "Cats," you'' feel even worse when your friends regale you with stories of how wonderful it was. "Cats" ran on Broadway for 18 years, a record. On stage at the Becker Auditorium, you only have two nights; miss them and you miss out. "Cats, A Musical Revue," takes the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the Becker Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High School. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, available at the doors, which open at 6:30 p.m. Here's a sneak peek at just some of what you'll see ... |
