Pinkerton upsets Smith

With 32.8% of registered Boundary County voters
casting ballots today, only one race saw a
primary incumbent ousted, as long-time public
servant Ron Smith, who has served the county as
both sheriff and county commissioner, fell to
challenger Lee Pinkerton, 999 votes to 801.
Incumbent Dan Dinning retained his seat, handily
defeating challenger Connie M. DeCoe-Munier,
1,204 to 564; and Sheriff Greg Sprungl held off
challenger Jeff Ennis, 1,041 to 747. Sprungl
will also be challenged in the November general
election, as he faces off against Independent
candidate Gary Leonard.
Running unopposed, prosecutor Jack Douglas
garnered 1,376 votes.
In state Republican races, incumbents reigned in
Boundary County. Congressman Raul Labrador
trounced challenger Reed McCandless, 1,288 to
369; District 1 State Senator Shawn Keough
defeated Danielle Ahrens 1,233 to 564; and Eric
Anderson will go to the general election having
defeated two GOP rivals, garnering 1,018 votes
to 667 picked up by Donna Capurso and 85 that
went to Louie Nye.
On the Democratic ticket in Boundary County,
Cynthia Clinkingbeard defeated Jimmy Farris for
the First District U.S. House seat, 42-39; Laura
Bry ran unopposed to challenge Keough in
November, gaining 80 votes; and Andrew Sorg and
Tim Tucker, also unopposed, garnered 77 and 84
votes respectively to face off against Anderson
and Eskridge.
In Republican Central Committee races, Larry
DeVore beat write-in candidate Brenda Tomulty,
253 to 5 to represent the BF/Kootenai precinct;
Tim Dillin defeated Donna Standley in the
Copeland precinct105 to 66; Robert Pluid beat
Terry Capurso in the Moyie Springs precinct, 317
to 108, Dave Jurgensen beat Walter Burrow 190 to
90 in the North Bonners Ferry precinct, Ken
Carrter will represent Naples precinct, with 110
votes to Connie DeCor-Munier's 69 and Chris
Ketner's 56, and Linda Alt retains her seat
representing the Valley View precinct, beating
Rick Dodd 228 to 54.
None of the Democratic precinct committeeman
positions were challenged. |
