A
two vehicle head-on collision occurred at
about 10:25 p.m. on U.S. 95 at Kootenai Trail Road. Boundary County Sheriffs Deputies, Paradise Valley Fire and Boundary Volunteer Ambulance were the initial responsiders to the collision, and Idaho State Police Officer arrived on-scene from Bonner County a short time later to conduct the investigation. According to ISP Corporal Don Moore, Clinton E. Corey, 37, Sandpoint, driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback, was traveling on Kootenai Trail Road and failed to stop at the stop at the sign at the intersection before entering onto U.S. 95. Rebecca David, 46, Bonners Ferry, driving 2006 Ford Taurus sedan, was traveling north and was struck by Corey. Both Corey, David and David's passenger, Raymond Schlechte, 47, Bonners Ferry, were wearing seat belts, and all three were transported to Boundary Community Hospital for treatment. Traffic on U.S. 95 southbound was at a standstill and north-bound traffic was being diverted onto Kootenai Trail Road until shortly before midnight, when wreckers arrived to clear the roadway. While at Boundary Community Hospital, one of the victims reported that a dog of unspecified breed was in the vehicle at the time of the collision; no one on scene reported seeing the dog, described as being black and weighing about 100 pounds. It is possible that the dog was injured and fled shortly after the collision; if anyone sees a dog matching that description in the area they are asked to call the Boundary County Sheriffs Office at (208) 267-3151, extension 0. |
