Final local Primary slate filled | ||

Incumbent Ken Irons said he's too tired to keep at it, but he worried that his likely replacement, sole contender Larry DeVore, was too worried that being hard of hearing would be an impediment ... DeVore waited until the last moment, and when no one else entered, he threw his hat in the ring. Perhaps that will work to his benefit; being mostly deaf, he tends to speak loudly ... Ken hopes that will be a benefit. Douglas is blessed, as there aren't many attorneys living in Boundary County willing to take on a largely thankless job. Of county offices, the one facing the greatest challenge on the ballot is sheriff Greg Sprungl, who will square off against challenger Jeff Ennis in the primary, and, should he win that, against Independent Gary Leonard and Democrat Shane Foutch in the general election. He's the only candidate whose race won't be decided May 15. Boundary County Commissioner Ron Smith (R-District 1) is being challenged by Republican Lee Pinkerton; incumbent Dan Dinning (R-District 3) is facing challenge by Connie M. DeCoe-Munier. None of the Democratic precinct committee races are challenged on the ballot; Charles "Jason" Thomas is running for the Bonners Ferry/Kootenai precinct; Delia Owens for the Moyie Springs precinct, Stephen Howlett for the Naples, Greg Johnson for North Bonners Ferry and Debbie Flory is in the race for the Valley View Precinct. On the GOP side, Donna Standley and Tim Dillin are in the running for the Copeland precinct; Terry Capurso and Robert D. "Bob" Pluid for the Moyie Springs precinct; Walter D. Burrow and Dave Jurgensen for the North Bonners Ferry precinct; Ken Carter, Connie M. DeCoe-Munier (also running for County Commissioner), and Chris Ketner are vying for the Naples precinct and Linda Alt is being challenged by Rick Dodd to represent the Valley View precinct. While not on the local ballot, Boundary County's perennial candidate Rick Reed (R-eediculous, Poverty Flats) is once again running for President of the United States of America, but he's doing it on a platform of wood he logged off his own land. The way this race is shaping up, he may well be a contender. |
