Naples kids usher in a new paper ... |
|
As funny as
they are, the kids in Mrs. Cavendar's
newspaper class at Naples have worked
hard, and they're going to release a
"must read" for everyone who loves
Naples. |

A year ago, there was no February 29, and the
official launch date of this site didn't happen
until March , though the first post went up
February 28.
That doesn't mean much, except as a milestone,
one I'm grateful to have attained.
The best part of all I've been privileged to do
came today, so February 29 shall henceforth and
forever be the official birthdate of this site.
That's because I did something I
haven't done in years ... I went back into a
local school, ostensibly to share my feeble
knowledge with a class of students interested in
creating a school newspaper, and came out with
this story.
I went in unscripted and scared ... nary a clue
what I would say or do ... until their teacher,
Mrs. Cavendar, set me at ease, and showed me the
work her seven students had invested in a Naples
School paper ... the Wolverine.
I don't know how they did it, but they had
everything nailed down pat; a great layout
targeted to their audience, excellent
photographs ... the kids, ranging from second
grade to sixth ... had, in a few short weeks,
accomplished all the basics that it takes to
create a great newspaper.
I am not sure if I told them anything they
didn't already know, and I'm not ashamed to say
it, but I think I learned more from them than
they did from me. |
