Cheer for families of the fallen
Folks
from throughout Boundary County are being asked
to take a few minutes out of your day Saturday
afternoon to line the final leg of the 44
kilometer Run for the Fallen to let the Gold
Star families of those 44 Idahoans who gave
their all in service to this country did not
give their lives in vain.More than 150 have signed up to run, and while each kilometer of the race will be run or walked by only a few, everyone who participates is going to take part in the final leg, which is expected to begin at about 2 p.m. Saturday at the conclusion of a ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial Park at the Boundary County Library.
Led by a contingent from the Patriot Guard Riders, the Gold Star families and the many who will choose to walk at their side, including veterans of all branches of the U.S. military, war survivors and war wounded, will make their way down Kootenai Street to the Post Office, turn right to Riverside Auto, then left to the underpass and on to the Boundary County Fairgrounds.
They'll be carrying the markers commemmorating the 44 Fallen, along with flags galore, where they're holding a barbecue. Organizers hope there are crowds of people lining the way to cheer on the Run for the Fallen participants, as it would be a great culmination to Idaho's first participation in this national event.
Those who'd like to participate or attend ceremonies that will open the Run for the Fallen are invited to be at the Veteran's Memorial Park at 7:45 a.m. Saturday.
