Expect delays traveling through Eastport |

Work begins Monday, July 11, on the U.S. 95
bridges on the Moyie River near Eastport, and
the Idaho Transportation Department says those
traveling through the Eastport Port of Entry in
either direction can expect delays. Work on the $162,000 project is expected to last through mid-August, with crews working 16-hours on weekdays. No work will take place on weekends. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during construction, with speeds reduced to 45 miles per hour. Flaggers will guide traffic as work progresses to put down a new bridge deck overlay and waterproof bridge parapets so as to prolong the life of the bridge. Braun-Jensen Construction, Payette, Idaho, was awarded the contract for the project. Construction has been on-going on the Canadian side of the border at Eastport, where a new port of entry is being built, and at Wednesday's Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting, Border Patrol supervisor Tish Lagerway was blunt in her recommendation. "If you're going to Canada, go through Porthill," she said. "Eastport is really a mess right now. Traffic is typically backed up both ways." |
