Appreciates her day spent at Boundary County Middle School |

February 14, 2015 To the Editor: A letter to Boundary County, I recently accepted an invitation to attend a day with my sixth grader at Boundary County Middle School. Middle school... I had flashbacks of my own tumultuous, transition from elementary to high school. I pictured a realm of discord, a world perfumed with perspiration, where adolescents ran wild, and learning was a luxury afforded only to a select few, struggling to be taught amidst the chaos. What I discovered was nothing like my three year bridge from Chippewa Elementary to Rampart High. Boundary County Middle School is filled with passionate, nurturing, resourceful adults, teaching traditional subjects in innovative and creative ways. The students are respectful of their educators and their peers. They actively participate in their learning, staying on task through incentive, with little reminding. The principal is present in every classroom throughout the day, observing and supporting faculty and students. I find our Middle School to be a place where individuals build relationships, brainstorm, communicate, inspire, educate, and learn from, and with, each other. It is a place where girls become young women, boys become young men, and teachers become mentors. All of which are integral members of our community. I am grateful to have gained a relevant perspective of BCMS. It is a vital piece of our county. I’m pleased to have had an opportunity few have experienced, yet many should. How lovely to see the challenges of adolescence, being met with strength and cohesive commitment. Our Middle School is not a happy accident, it is shaped by collective purpose. I invite you to see for yourselves. Alyssa Pinkerton |
