This is a thanks to the community and all of the
participants, sponsors and helpers that helped
make the third annual Penguin Plunge to benefit
Idaho Special Olympic Athletes a success.
Without the community support this event would
not be possible, and we all should be proud of
our local Special Olympic Athletes.
Despite less than pleasant weather,
challenges with the wind and low river levels,
we were able to adapt and have a fun and
successful event in spite of the challenges.
A
support team has already met following the
plunge and we have some great ideas and changes
for next year’s Penguin Plunge that will be held
on the second Saturday of March in 2013.
A
special thanks goes out to all those who braved
the cold to participate either as a Plunger or a
volunteer worker to help raise money for Special
Olympics Idaho, and those who sponsored
Plungers.
We
could not have pulled the plunge off without the
support of JoJo Baker and his cooking, Becks
Furniture for loaning us their enclosed van and
the City of Bonners Ferry for the use of a Fire
Deptartment support vehicle as changing areas,
once we realized that the wind would not allow
us to set up the changing canopies.
The Kootenai Tribe of Idaho who provided
a floating dock to allow Plungers to reach water
deeper than ankle deep.
And of course the Boundary Volunteer
Ambulance crew, Boundary Search and Dive Rescue
Team and the Boundary County Sheriff’s Posse for
their help and support.
