Badger baseball improves to 7-2 in early season play

The Badger Baseball team improved it’s early season record to 7-2 last week over doubleheader sweeps of Chewelah and Riverside.

GAME #1
Bonners Ferry – 5 Chewelah – 0

Senior Jesse Dunham pitched a complete game, throwing 98 pitches, striking out nine and not walking a batter in the 5-0 game over Chewelah. Dunham’s record improves to 2-0 in the season.

The Badgers scored all their runs in the top of the 5th inning started off by Kaleb Stockton’s one out single to right. After a hit batter and a fielders choice to load the bases, Brady Bateman hit an RBI followed by a two run double from Chris Sabin. His brother, Nick, then hit a two run double to finish the scoring.

Brady Bateman, Chris Sabin and Nick Sabin all had two hits in the game for the Badgers.

GAME #2
Bonners Ferry – 15 Chewelah – 14 (8 innings)

The Badgers had to claw their way to a 15-14 extra inning affair to sweep Chewelah in the second game. Senior pitcher Kevin Gray got the win for the Badgers.

Bonners Ferry scored six runs in the first inning and two more in the 2nd inning to take an early 8-0 lead, but gave it away in the bottom of the third when Chewelah took a 9-8 lead. Chewelah scored a lone run in the 5th inning, but the Badgers scored four runs in the top of the 6th inning to regain the lead 12-10.

Chewelah then scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to push the game into extra innings, where the Badgers added three more runs to secure the win.

Chris Sabin led all hitters going 3 for 5 at the plate, including a double.

GAME #1
Riverside – 0 Bonners Ferry – 10 (5 innings)

The Badgers scored two runs in the first and second inning and then busted out six more runs in the 5th inning take win a 10-0 win over the visiting Riverside Rams. Junior Chris Sabin pitched a complete game, striking out six and walking six.

The Badgers were led at the plate by Junior Shayne Walker going two for two with a double. Brady Bateman, Nick Sabin, Jesse Dunham and Kaleb Stockton all got hits for the Badgers.

GAME #2
Riverside – 0 Bonners Ferry – 4

Bonners Ferry scrapped together two runs in the 3rd inning, a solo run in the 4th and a security run in the 5th inning to hold off Riverside and complete the two game sweep of the Rams.

Junior Mason Eby pitched effectively giving up only three hits to the Rams while striking out seven and walking only three batters.

The Badgers started the scoring when Mason Eby reached on an error as well as Brady Bateman and later scored on a two run double from Nick Sabin. Bonners Ferry added a run in the 4th inning after Kevin Gray walked and later scored on a single from Eby.

In the 5th inning, Nick Sabin hit his second double of the game and later scored to make the final score 4-0 Badgers.
