Badgers defeat Timberlake Tigers to finish perfect
in IML Baseball

The Badger baseball team completed their first ever perfect season in Intermountain League history by beating the Timberlake Tigers 9-5 last Tuesday. The win improves their overall record to 19-2 with a 9-0 league record going into the District tournament next Monday.

The Badgers pounded out five runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning and scattered four more runs throughout the game to secure the 9-5 win over the Tigers.

Senior Caleb Blackmore started off the inning with a single to left followed by back-to-back singles from Vince Bennett and Jesse Dunham. Senior Caleb Gering then pounded a two-run triple to deep left center to score Bennett and Dunham. With one out in the inning, junior Kaleb Stockton hit a RBI triple of his own to score Gering. Junior Kevin Gray then followed up with a RBI single to score Stockton.

The Badgers added a run in the top of the third to make the score 6-0 on a RBI single from Dunham. The Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the third on one hit and a Badger error to narrow the lead to 6-2. Bonners Ferry added two runs in the top of the fourth when Stockton hit a double to left center and Gray followed up with a single. Junior Raul Rodriguez scored both of them on a two run double to make the score 8-2.

Timberlake responded again by scoring two runs with two outs in the inning aided by another Badger error and two hits making the score 8-4. Both teams went scoreless in the fifth inning but Timberlake narrowed the lead in the bottom of the sixth scoring a single run to make the score 8-5. Bonners Ferry added a run in their half of the seventh after Gering walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Bennett, coming in relief for pitcher Dunham, struck out the last two batters to end the game.

Bonners Ferry will play Kellogg on Monday, May 9 at 4:00 p.m. in Bonners Ferry in the first round of the District 1 – 3A baseball tournament. The winner advances to the Championship game on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., with the winner of that game moving on to the State Tournament.

Jesse Dunham got the win, improving his record to 6-0 while Bennett came in relief in the sixth inning.
