She was born March 9, 1929, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Ewald and Esther Ziebell, and was the oldest of three siblings who included her brothers Richard and Roger Ziebell. She helped her parents at the grocery store they owned in Wausau, and graduated from Wausau High School. Marilyn married Raymond Hintze on September 6, 1947, in Wausau. They raised eight children, moving frequently because of Ray’s job with A & P Grocery. They later owned their own grocery store in Scales Mound, Illinois. The family moved to Bergland, Michigan, in the early 1970s, where they also owned and operated a grocery store. When the last of their children were finishing high school, Marilyn went back to school and earned a degree in licensed practical nursing at Gogebic Community College in Ironwood, Michigan. She worked as an LPN for a number of years at the Woodland Manor in Woodruff, Wisconsin. Marilyn and Ray retired to the Woodruff/Minocqua, Wisconsin, area in the mid-1980s. After Ray passed away in 1987, Marilyn operated a daycare center in her home for many years. Known affectionately by her family as “Grandma Nan,” Marilyn had a special bond with children. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were some of her happiest days. She had a nurturing, soothing demeanor that could calm a crying child in an instant. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marilyn was also a prolific knitter who made hundreds and hundreds of pairs of mittens and socks through the years. Her Christian faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully attended the Lutheran church. Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband Ray, and a great-grandchild, Isaac. She is survived by her eight children, Tim (Lynnette) Hintze, Whitefish, Montana, Tom (Mary) Hintze, Bergland, Michigan, Terry (Katie) Hintze, Arlington, Washington; Ted (Patty) Hintze, Fremont, Michigan, Cindy (Scott) Davis, Marshalltown, Iowa, Diane (Robert) Blanford, Bonners Ferry, Patty Karpinski, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Sharon Hintze, Bonners Ferry, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, brothers Richard (Nancy) and Roger (Jane), all of Wausau, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Marilyn Hintze Memorial Fund, in care of Peace Lutheran Church, which will provide assistance to families in need. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Sandpoint, has been entrusted with the arrangement. Family and friends are asked to sign her guest book. |
