He was born on September 21, 1952, in Spirit Lake to Donald E. Satchwell and Dorothy P. (Simpson) Satchwell. Dean grew up on the family farm on the Rathdrum Prairie in Post Falls. He graduated from Post Falls High School. Dean enjoyed years of farming, but his chosen profession was to become a peace officer. He attended numerous certified law enforcement courses throughout his 32-year career in Washtucna, Ritzville and Othello with the Adams County, Washington, Sheriff’s Office. After retirement, Dean worked at the Bonners Ferry Police Department and the Boundary County and Bonner County Sheriff’s Departments. While living in Fairbanks, Alaska, he worked at the Sportsman’s Warehouse and Yukon Title. Dean married Janet C. Camp in Cheney, Washington, and they recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. Dean enjoyed skiing, hunting and fishing, “do-it-yourself” projects, photography, making intarsia wood projects for family and friends, picking huckleberries, hiking and taking drives in the mountains. He is survived by his wife, Janet, Oakesdale, Washington, his mother, Dorothy Satchwell, Post Falls, siblings Donald R. (Terri) Satchwell of Marlton, New Jersey, Donna (Robert) Felgenhauer of Oakesdale, Washington, and DeImna (Mark) Heiken of Fort Benton, Montana; in-laws Richard and Mary Ellen Camp of Spangle, Washington, and Carolyn (Allen) Dyer of Simi Valley, California; two nieces, five nephews, and several grand nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Satchwell, and his grandparents. Our families request you pay tribute to Dean by holding the door open for other people, showing up to help others with projects large and small, driving without distractions and living your life with wisdom and compassion.
