Roger Orley Olmsted, Sr., 87, of Bonners Ferry,
Idaho, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away
peacefully surrounded by family on December 21,
2015. Roger was born January 23, 1928 in Lawrence, Kansas. He was the son of Orley Lewright Olmsted and Myrtle Berry (Senne) Olmsted. Mr. Olmsted attended University High School in Lawrence, and joined the Marines in July 1945, serving until August 1946. Mr. Olmsted had a A.B. in Entomology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Kansas, and a Masters in Public Health from Tulane University. He served in the Public Health Service for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement he enjoyed working on genealogy, making numerous trips in the United States and to England for genealogy research. His book Olmsted Family History and Genealogy of Non-emigrating Ancestors and Relatives in Essex and Hertfordshire Counties, England, 1500-1750 was published just prior to his death. Mr. Olmsted was a lifelong bird watcher; in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Audubon Society. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Joyce (Andersen) Olmsted, their two daughters Marcia Kay Olmsted and Diana Olmsted Baker, and three sons, Gregory Kim Olmsted, Roger Orley Olmsted II, and Frederick Hugh Olmsted, also 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. |
