Jack
Wesley Messick, 72, was born on September 8,
1942, and went to be with Jesus his Lord on
April 20, 2015. Jack led a life filled with
kindness, gentleness and love for others. He had
a true servant’s heart. Born in Santa Cruz, California to Vernon Messick and Lulu (Bateman) Messick, he joined his sister Joanne. He grew up there and left home at an early age to work on a ranch in Montana, later working in Boise before returning to Santa Cruz. Early in 1966 he met the love of his life, Derinda, and they were married on July 17, 1966. They were blessed with the birth of their children Tina and Kevin and later by adopting Nathaniel. The family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1980 along with his father Vernon and grandfather Joe. He accepted Christ as his savior in 1982, and shared his love for the Lord any chance that he had. Jack was a carpenter and had a love of woodworking that he was able to pursue fulltime when he began building beautiful log furniture in 1987. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his ATV. One of the greatest joys in his life were his birds. They lived in his shop, and it was not uncommon to see one perched on his shoulder while he worked. Jack was preceded in death by his newborn daughter Karrie, sister Joanne, parents Vernon and Lulu, grandparents Joe and Louise and his Aunt Violet. He is survived by his loving wife Derinda Messick, daughter Tina Messick , son Kevin (Gina) Messick, son Nathaniel Messick , grandsons Allen and Jesse Messick, nieces Cori (Mike) Ladely, Susi Vogl, Janet (Mike) Haugen, Gail (Bob) Collyer, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Jack’s memorial service will be held at Mountain Springs Church in Bonners Ferry on May 2 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to missionaries Bryce and Kristina Cordle, who are friends of Jack and Derinda. Donations can be made at www.mogiv.com/mtsprings/cordle or at Mountains Springs Church - designated to “Cordles.” Family and friends are invited to sign Jack’s book at www.bonnersferryfuneralhome.com Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. |
