Born in Carrington, North Dakota, January 17, 1962, to Joseph and Mary Stahl, Tom was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Sykeston, North Dakota, enjoying basketball, cross-country track and drumming in the school band. Living next to Lake Hiawatha started a life-long passion for fishing. Camping in Hawk's Nest with his friends gave him fodder for stories that never grew old. Tom was a coal miner in Wyoming and Utah after school, but moved back to North Dakota in the early 80s, where he met Theresa Carr. They fell deeply in love, and were married in 1986. They moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where Tom worked in concrete construction and began to hone the skills that would become his trademark. Their first child, Jonathan, was born in 1989. They moved to Las Vegas in 1990 and welcomed their daughter, Olivia, in 1993. The Stahls started their Idaho Dream in 1994 when they moved to Bonners Ferry. Tom loved the mountains and taught his children how to fish, camp, back-pack and hunt. Home-schooling allowed them to spend quality time sharing many family adventures. Tom and Theresa dreamed of being able to work together, so they opened a gift shop, Beyond, in 2008, which kept the whole family busy for several years. Tom, after many years in concrete, opened his own business, Capricorn Construction, in 2015. Known for being “the Idea Man,” his reputation as a talented craftsman ensured his success. Famous for his stories and constant smile, Tom loved to share his knowledge, expertise, or “just his opinion.” His favorite t-shirt reads” Idaho Tom's Theories and Philosophizing.” Preceded in death by his parents, Tom is survived by his loving wife, Theresa, his children, Jonathan and Olivia, his sisters, brothers and many friends. Tom touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. |
