Shortly after he was born, the family moved to the Kamiah, Idaho, area where he attended school in Caribel, Kooskia, and Grangeville. While living in Grangeville, he went to work on a farm for Roy Willey, where he met the love of his life, Mildred Willey, Roy’s daughter. Soon after, they married on October 6, 1945, in Lewiston. They started their family in Caribel, Idaho, and then later moved to Bonners Ferry in 1953. They bought a house and property in District 5, where he started a small cattle and horse ranch. He logged the property with teams of horses and later with a log jammer and a cat dozer. Harland, Mildred and the kids all worked in the woods together. Harland worked in the timber industry until 1980, when he started driving school bus for Boundary County School District 101, where he retired in 1993. Harland enjoyed raising horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, peacocks and numerous other animals. He also loved to fish, hunt, and play pinochle. But he loved and cherished his time with his family the most. Harland is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mildred, along sons Beloit (Marva) Mendenhall, Eugene (Peggy) Mendenhall, Randy (Jeanna) Mendenhall and Wesley Mendenhall; daughters Norma Martinez, Connie (Tim) Rosco, and Laresa (Kevin) Cossairt; grandchildren David Mendenhall, Lisa Pluid, Ron Mendenhall, Rod Mendenhall, Jeff Mendenhall, Jose Martinez, Connie Watko, Chris Mendenhall, Krista Mendenhall, Justin Mendenhall, Jeremy Rosco, Jaime Rosco, Tristan Mendenhall, Savannah Mendenhall, Brianna Cook and Jacob Cook; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
