Richard “Rick” Cal Bateman passed away from a
stroke November 1, 2011, at Kootenai Medical
Center in Coeur d’Alene Idaho at the age of 60.
Funeral Services were held on November 5 a the
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints
in Bonners Ferry with interment in the Grandview
Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Rick was born in Gooding Idaho, September 12, 1951, the second of seven children born to Cal D. and Arlene Bateman. Rick was raised on the family farm in north Shoshone, Idaho, where he graduated in 1969. He graduated from Ricks College in 1971, where he met and married Carolyn Bateman in the Idaho Falls Temple. He continued his education at BYU, where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in agriculture. This same year Rick and Carolyn welcomed their first child and returned to Shoshone to start their family. In 1984, Rick decided to give up milking cows and put his degree to use. He took a job with the Department of Agriculture and moved his young family to Bonners Ferry. Rick continued this work, serving the farmers in Boundary and Bonner Counties for 27 years. Rick was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. He served not only the members of his congregation, but many in the community who needed assistance. Rick's first love was his family, but he enjoyed many other activities. He was passionate about sports and loved to watch his kids and grandchildren play. He loved spending time in the woods, cutting firewood for those in need. Many in the community would often see him walking around town. This slowed down some when he fulfilled a life-long dream and purchased his first motorcycle. Rick was survived by his wife, Carolyn Jane Bateman, his children: Cal (Melissa) Bateman, Kristy Bateman, Jed (Tomi) Bateman, Becky Bateman, Todd (Kelli) Bateman, and Julie (Adam) Newhouse, and 17 grandchildren. His mother Arlene (Nebeker) Bateman, his siblings: Spencer Bateman, Quayle “Short” Bateman, Jan Anderson, Jon Bateman, Tamara Maddox, Allisyn Hartman and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close personal friends. Rick was preceded in death by his father Cal D. Bateman. He will be forever missed, remembered always. Family and friends are invited to sign Rick’s book at www.bonnersferryfuneralhome.com. |
