February 27, 2014

President: Lily Blackmore, Vice-president: Avery Pluid, Secretary: Paisley Schulte, Treasurer: Evan Barajas
Representatives: Reese Lane, Ally Wages, Aleah Jones, Bo Bateman, Cory Clairmont, Jaden Villeli
Faculty Representatives: RaNae Barker, Gary Pflueger
VP Avery Pluid took role: Jaden and Cory were absent; Emma Watts filled in for Mrs. Funkhouser’s class. The Minutes of the January Meeting were reviewed; Avery made a motion to approve the minutes; this was seconded by Reese and they were unanimously approved.
Evan gave a Treasurer’s Report. The Student Council has a total of $1,399.30. This includes $341.08 in expenses and $933.43 income. New income was made available from Santa Grams, pencil and popcorn sales.
School Spirit: New discussion and decisions are identified through enlarged bolt print.
The following dates were selected for school spirit activities:
March 3-6 “Read Across America Week” Dr. Seuss Birthday; Green Eggs and Ham for lunch. The Student Council wanted to add that hats can be worn on Wednesday—Cat in the Hat style hats or Silly Hats as seen in most of Dr. Seuss books.
March 27 “Twin Day” Find a friend or two and dress alike!
April 10 “American Day” Every day is good to be an American. Dress up and show your support!
May 29th Talent Show
May 29 “Mr. P. Day” Wear a mustache and a tie; be safe, civil and productive!
June 2-5 “Spirit Week” Monday-Safe, Tuesday-Civil, Wednesday-Productive, Thursday-Badger
The HS is still working on our school sign for the front of the school. It is now in the wood shop at BFHS.

Community Service Projects selected were:
The month of March we will support the Animal Shelter by collecting items, school-wide; Student Council will give a financial donation. The Student Council needs to make posters for the collection of needed food items, materials and supplies.
May 1st the Student Council will deliver May Day cards and flowers to the Restorium.
Making cards to support all local law enforcement (Border Patrol, City Police, Sheriff, etc). Date to be determined!
The Student Councill Officers and Faculty Reps will meet with the owners of the Rex Theatre to determine if a donation would be a prudent use of the Student Council money. This was tabled until we find out the cost of the School Sign, the Friendship Bench and donation for bleachers.
Community Trash pickup will be done in May
Donate money for the bleachers; this will be discussed at next meeting

Fund Raising:
We held a vote to sell Lucky Grams on St. Patrick’s Day; this passed unanimously. St. Patrick’s Grams may be sold on March 12, 13 and 17. This is dependent upon finding the appropriate candy to be sold.

New Business:
Bo Bateman again brought up the discussion of energy conservation. During evening cleaning, if lights were turned off when the room is empty, we would save money. This includes recess, and specialty times. This reminder to turn off the light when leaving a room is cost effective. The gym lights are attached to a motion sensor and turn off when there is no activity; the school lights are not. We will bring this to the attention of the maintenance crew.
Further discussion was held about building a “Friendship or Buddy Bench” on the playground. This would be a location for students to go when they feel lonely or need support. We are not sure if this would further isolate lonely or sad students. We will discuss this more before making a decision.

The next Meeting will be on Thursday, March 13, at 11:45 a.m.
