A Sutton man is fighting for his life and another is facing
DUI and assault charges after a head-on collision Friday night
on the Glenn Highway. Palmer police and Alaska State Troopers from the Bureau of Highway Patrol were called to the collision near milepost 54 at 11:14 a.m. and determined that a Ford pickup driven by Peter E. Wilson, 61, Sutton, had been travelling south when he veered into the northbound lane and into the path of a Mitsubishi sedan driven by Gerhard Jakits, 45, also of Sutton. Jakits was critically injured in the collision and transported to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Wilson, found to have been drinking, was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released into custody on charges of DUI and first degree assault. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial. The accident remains under investigation by the Bureau of Highway Patrol. |
