Redington School takes big step forward

This
new school is one of five new facilities approved by Mat-Su
voters in the 2011. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2015, it is
now known that students of the school, named after "Father of
the Iditarod" Joe Redington Sr., will be known as the Huskies,
and bear school colors of navy and action green.According to Mat-Su Borough School District public information officer Catherine Esary, much else took place at the forum; architects presented the layout of the school-to-be, described the site, talked of traffic patterns and how the new facility will fit in with the community.
Project manager Bob Bechtold spoke of planning and design phases of the $65-million school bond project.
Myriad questions about the new facility from stakeholders were answered and mundane matters such as financing and development history were discussed.
But it was the revelation of the new school's mascot and colors, selected by middle school students throughout the district, that highlighted the forum.
