Beck calls for continued action on stench

Haze from something emanating from the Palmer Monofill site is obvious in this photo submitted to Mat-Su-Borough Assemblyman Matthew Beck by Theresa Daly. The noxious odor of this haze resulted in a spate of emergency calls overnight.
Assemblyman Matthew Beck
After calling on Palmer residents upset at noxious odors emanating from the Monofill site on state fairgrounds to call city hall this morning, Mat-Su Borough Assemblyman Matthew Beck this afternoon upped the ante.

He is now encouraging residents to file complaint with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation against Alaska Demolition, operators of the site.

"I've spoken with the City of Palmer Manager and folks at the State of Alaska DEC," Beck wrote on his Facebook page this afternoon. "I'm getting conflicting reports. The City has stated that there is an underground fire at the Monofill site located at the southeast corner of the Alaska State Fairgrounds. The DEC states that the company claims there was a 'steam release.' I think the company is lying. I think we know the difference between smoke and steam. I have been told that there are penalties if it is a fire and my guess is that the company is trying to avoid those penalties. Please keep calling and visit the attached website to file an official complaint with the DEC. Thank you!"
