A 33-year-old Palmer man is facing a variety of charges,
including felony DUI, after he was pulled over for weaving
Sunday night, and one of his passengers is in hot water, too. At approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, Alaska State Troopers with the Bureau of Highway Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a Ford truck weaving on Trunk Road at College Drive near Palmer. Joseph Cleaver failed a series of field sobriety tests and taken into custody for DUI. Because he has three prior convictions, two in the last 10 years, this time, the charge is a felony. In addition, Cleaver was allegedly driving on a revoked license, had two young children under the age of six in the vehicle and had a loaded firearm in the rig. In addition to felony DUI, he also faces two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and two second-degree counts, fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon and driving while license revoked. His older passenger, Darren Hildebrand, 30, Anchorage, was also allegedly intoxicated and was taken into custody on two counts of welfare of a child and two second-degree counts and fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon. Both were remanded to the Matsu Pre-Trial Facility, Hildebrand with bail set at $1,500; Cleaver with bail set at $7,500, plus court appointed third party custodian. |
