Otter proclaims 2nd Amendment Protection Month

In a proclamation signed Monday, May 6, Idaho Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter has designated May, 2013, as Idaho 2nd Amendment Protection Month, inviting arms manufacturers to consider relocating to gun-friendly Idaho.

"WHEREAS, Idaho and its citizens have vigorously supported the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution, which protects the right to keep and bear arms; and

"WHEREAS, the Idaho Constitution reaffirms the people’s right to keep and bear arms and states that “No law shall impose licensure, registration or special taxation on the ownership or possession of firearms or ammunition”; and

"WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association ranks Idaho as a gun-friendly state whose laws are among the least restrictive in the nation; and

"WHEREAS, both the Executive and Legislative branches of government make regular efforts to strengthen and expand Idaho’s gun laws to protect our citizens’ right to bear arms; and

"WHEREAS, Idaho respects the rights of private businesses to operate without burdensome government regulations and bureaucracy that restrict free market principles; and

"WHEREAS, Idaho is home to a thriving arms and ammunition manufacturing sector that includes over two dozen companies throughout the state that are well-connected and support each other’s continued growth and success; and

"WHEREAS, Idaho boasts a stable government, a history of reducing the tax burden on citizens, and predictable regulatory policies that are friendly to business; and

"WHEREAS, Idaho has created an atmosphere where businesses can thrive, including some of the lowest business costs in the United States, access to key international markets, and a talented and motivated workforce; and

"WHEREAS, the state of Idaho openly embraces companies in the arms and ammunition manufacturing sector to expand or relocate to the state;

"NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim May 2013 to be IDAHO 2nd AMENDMENT PROTECTION MONTH and encourage business leaders who are looking for a new location for their operations to become new corporate citizens in a state that will encourage their continued success.
