Local teen charged with drug trafficking
February 23, 2012
A Bonners Ferry teenager is facing felony drug trafficking charges after a routine police stop at the Boundary County Fairgrounds February 2.

Dennis Dewayne Neuman, 18, 6916 Bauman Street, was approached in his car by a Bonners Ferry Police officer, who noticed the smell of marijuana and asked if he'd been smoking.

Neuman admitted that he had. Because Neuman is the stepson of a fellow police officer, a deputy sheriff was brought in to conduct the investigation.

According to court documents, Neuman admitted not only to using marijuana, but to have been selling small quantities over a period of three months, and that he was at the fairgrounds to make a sale. He admitted to having used marijuana since the eighth grade, and he showed the deputy where three containers containing 16 grams of marijuana were stored in his car.

In addition to the felony charge, he was also charged with possession of paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for March 9, and Neuman is free on $6,000 bond. Because his step-father is a local peace officer, the case will be handled by a prosecutor from outside Boundary County.
