Flood watch issued at Eastport

May 25, 2011

The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a flood watch for the Moyie River at Eastport.

At 2:45 a.m. Wednesday the stage was 8.6 feet. The river is forecast to reach the flood stage level of nine feet Friday morning and remain near nine feet through next week.

At that level, lowland flooding occurs between Eastport and Addie.

In addition to the flood watch, the National Weather Service also issued a winter weather watch as late season snow is expected in the mountains as a strong low pressure system sends a band of heavy precipitation into the mountains tonight and into Thursday morning.

Initially rain will fall, then quickly change over to snow above 4,000 feet.
