Be ready for flooding

Boundary County Commissioners are sending letters to several property owners along the upper Moyie River in and near Eastport to encourage them to prepare for potential flooding.

Thanks to a slow melt-off over time, it is not anticipated that spring flooding this year will be bad, but the letter reminded property owners, many who live out of state, that it is up to them to protect their belongings, either by doing the work themselves or by hiring contractors to protect any buildings that lie within flood-prone areas.

During high run-off years, the county makes sandbags available to homeowners for free, as well as provide sand in a central location.

Commissioners also encouraged absentee property owners to notify Hall Mountain Fire, PO Box 159, Eastport, ID 83826, (208) 267-7375, of the exact location of structures in those flood prone areas so that they can make contact should damage occur.
