Joe Vevera committed suicide with a shotgun in a house later lived in by Milt Branson in year 1903 or 1911 ... not sure which. He's buried alongside what is now Highway 95. The headstone was turned around to face Highway 95 later, but the grave was never moved. No relatives around. Shotgun pellets holes were in the room for years afterwards. This version told to me by Ross Gudbaur and my dad, the late Paul Flinn. District 1 flooded I remember riding home with my mother in the 50,. 1956 most likely. Just south of our golf course you go through an "S" corner under the railroad tracks. The straight-away headed south was under water. Seems like maybe four inches or so. District 1 had flooded. Boater rescued I don't remember this at all, however my father told me the story several times. Most likely in the late 40s or early 50s, dad and I were going home from the dump on Cow Creek Road. Yes the dump used to be out Cow Creek. All of a sudden a wet man crawled out of the brush on the road. He and his partner were fishing at Crossport when their boat capsized. His partner was still in the water, hanging on to a river piling. Dad and the sheriff had to go to the rescue in the Idaho Fish and Game boat. |
