Being informed a powerful tool

Being an informed and aware citizen is a powerful tool and the recent article concerning local law enforcement efforts was both informative and useful (Bonners Ferry  Herald, October 12,  "Crime still happens in a small town") However, reading the list of published service calls is tedious at best. That list is by no means a complete picture of activity and is easily forgotten or overlooked. Perhaps using the tool communitycrimemap.com  is something the county and city should consider implementing. NIXLE.com is another service that could prove timely, beneficial and informative. Leave out the “it’s going to snow” messages and concentrate on accident(s), find another route, lost persons, police action, avoid area, etc. Information inputted will still be at the discretion of law enforcement and may be incomplete, but at least it is a start.
