"Spiritsong," an international touring choir
with members from Creston, Coeur d'Alene,
Sandpoint, and Bonners Ferry, will share
highlights of their recent tour in "Costa Rica:
The Songs, Stories and Images" in three
performances; 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 15 at
Redeemer Lutheran Church, Creston; 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 16, at the First Presbyterian
Church, Sandpoint; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, June
17, at the Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash Street,
Bonners Ferry. Admission is free, but donations will gratefully be accepted to help cover music and performance venue costs. At Sunday's performance at the Pearl Theater, the Pearl Cafe will open at 1 p.m., serving a lunch of typical Costa Rican fare. Spiritsong received standing ovations on their tour of Costa Rica May 27 through June 7, where they performed in churches, schools, and for a community educational/arts organization. The concerts here will feature the music from their tour, as well as stories and images of their experiences. The images will be projected while the group is singing and stories are being shared. It will be a feast for eyes and ears, and an introduction to the people, geography and culture of the Costa Rican people. Spiritsong has also toured in China, 2004, Ireland, 2007, and Tanzania, 2009. Future tours may include Zimbabwe and Turkey/the Greek Islands. Conducted by Victoria Blake and accompanied by pianist Barb Nelson, Spiritsong exists to promote peace and unity through music and cultural exchange. They seek to create community and connection with the common people in the countries they tour by performing in a wide variety of venues including small communities, schools, and churches. Spiritsong welcomes members of all faiths and political perspectives who seek to create peace and live in harmony with all earth's people. |
