Gingerbread Winter Village coming to Bonners Ferry

Everyone who has that old fashioned spark of Christmas is invited and encouraged to take part in the creation of a Gingerbread Winter Village of Bonners Ferry that will be put on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, December 16 and 17, in the south entrance of the Bonners Ferry Museum.

Individuals, groups, young folks and old are invited to create and enter components for the village, and everyone's imagination is the only limit. To be included, gingerbread creations will only be accepted at the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, December 9-10.

"As examples," wrote Karen Standal, one of the event's organizers, "imagine a gingerbread train, courthouse, homes, the original witch's gingerbread house and a little gingerbread cookie running away, or how about the Georgia Mae gazebo with swans, gliding on a mirror."

She said the Bonners Ferry Museum is teeming with great ideas, with pictures of Bonners Ferry dating back to the time it was known as "the Village of Bonners Ferry."

People who visit the museum December 16 and 17 will be able to vote on their favorite creation by dropping pennies into wrapped boxes by each entry, and there will be a silent auction for those creations that are donated for the cause. All proceeds will benefit the BoCo Backpack program, keeping with the blessed spirit of giving back to the community.

Entries must be built on a sturdy platform 20-inches by 24-inches in size, and everything included in the display must be edible. For a traditional gingerbread house recipe, click here.

The Rex Theater is going to be showing two Christmas movies on Saturday, for free, and some lucky child will win a brand-new bicycle at each show!
